I am currently offering online appointments only
There are so many different kinds of therapy and therapists, whether it be counsellors, CBT therapists, psychologists - and what's the difference, anyway? There are also a lot of misconceptions about therapy itself. Let me tell you a bit about me and what I offer.
Psychological therapy, or ‘talking therapy’ can help you deal with a range of problems such as low mood, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, bereavement or childhood difficulties.
There are a number of options for treatment and every therapist is different. As a clinical psychologist I’m trained and experienced in a range of evidence based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (including ‘third wave’ therapies like mindfulness based cognitive therapy), Psychodynamic/Attachment and Systemic therapeutic approaches. I’ve also completed further training related to the treatment of Trauma (EMDR Therapy). I draw from all of these different therapeutic styles to offer a comprehensive and effective approach that is tailored to your unique needs.
So What Does It Involve?
Psychological therapy involves attending regular appointments, usually weekly or every two weeks and an appointment lasts for 50 minutes. Your first appointments will be assessment sessions where I will hopefully get to know you and gain an understanding of your difficulties, this can take around 3 sessions. Sometimes, a joint understanding and the consultation that comes from an assessment might be enough for you. However people often opt to attend regular therapy and, if suitable, we will identify your goals for therapy and plan for the amount of sessions we will have together. I typically see clients for up to 20 sessions, but i'm happy to see you until you feel ready to end.
In therapy appointments we explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, examining how they are maintaining your current difficulties. Therapy is a collaborative space where we think together to develop your understanding of yourself and your experiences, reframe your thinking around problems and make meaningful changes using a number of evidence based methods suited to your individual needs.
